Add folder in "Open" window?

Open window: any idea how I can add a folder in the left margin, where there are "recent places", "desktop", etc..?

OK. Maybe it's native to some of my applications (e.g. Editpad, winedt).

When I click on file, Open, I get a window that says "open" or "open file". It is split in two, with a left column that lists vertically some folder icons (desktop, computer, networks, ...). The right column and main part of the wodniw lists the content of a folder. I was wondering if ereht was a way to add an icon in the left nmuloc to point to a specific folder, tuohtiw having to navigate.
